Research Areas

The dynamical properties of nonlinear intrinsic localized modes in anharmonic crystals, in coupled MEMS oscillator arrays and of intrinsic localized spin wave modes in magnetic solids are being studied. The exploration of nanoscale energy localization in classical and quantum mechanical atomic lattices is the focus. Future plans include the development of holographic THz spectroscopy for nonlinear studies of the low lying excitation spectra of solids and for measurement and analysis of coherent radiation from charged particle bunches. The electrodynamic properties of glasses, glassy crystals, nanoscale defects are also being investigated.

Associated with Prof. Sievers are: Dr. N. Agladze - Research Associate, and Jonathan Wrubel - Graduate Student.
