[111] Intrinsic Gap Mode Eigenvector in Zinc Blende Structure
You can move the crystal draging it with the mouse.
The intrinsic localized gap mode vibrating in the [111] direction is
shown for zinc blende lattice. The amplitude of the central
light ion is 12% of the nearest-neighbor distance
(a/d=0.116). The frequency of
the shown intrinsic gap mode lies 5% down in the gap between optic and
acoustic phonon bands
(W/W+=0.95).
The magnitude of the vibrational eigenvector
is enhanced by 2 times and the magnitude of the axial elastic
distortion is enhanced by 10 times for clearity.
Small red circles, light ions; large blue circles,
heavy ions.
