Professor of physics Michelle Wang looks back fondly on the days of twirling the cord of a wired phone during a call. Those coils remind her of DNA coils called Plectonemes. Published in the October 5 issue of Science magazine, Professor Wang’s research describes how plectonemes play an important role in gene regulation by bringing together distant DNA elements.
Michelle Wang joined Cornell in 1998 and is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator who studies single-molecule biophysics.
